Marrakech — Pre-opening
Opening a luxury hotel in Marrakech: recruit, train and test before the first guest
· 5 min read
Morocco's tourism growth is accelerating hotel openings and repositioning projects in Marrakech. This momentum also places pressure on recruitment, experienced supervisors and the ability of new teams to deliver consistent service immediately.
Pre-opening must be managed as an operational phase in its own right. The goal is not only technical readiness, but making the property, procedures and people work together before the hotel's reputation is exposed.
Recruit around the service promise
Headcount should follow the guest journey, operating hours and expected level of personalisation. Copying another hotel's organisation creates overstaffing at some times and service gaps at others. Candidates should be selected for judgement, hospitality and learning ability as much as previous experience.
Train through real situations
Standards become useful only when rehearsed: late arrival, private request, unavailable room, allergy, delayed transfer or complaint. Cross-department simulations expose unclear ownership and allow managers to correct gestures, tone and timing before opening.
Run a measurable soft opening
A soft opening should deliberately limit capacity, track incidents and hold a short daily review. Waiting times, room rework, missed requests and guest feedback become an action plan. The official opening can then happen when quality is stable, not simply when the calendar demands it.
